Emotions....Are Us

Bad grammar, but it is to make a point. We are primarily emotional creatures, our actions heavily influenced by our emotions. But most of the time we are not aware of that influence.

This is how it works: We have an emotion, something that is involuntary and subconscious, then we invent a reason why we have it.  We do not choose to feel a certain emotion, we just do, then we search in our mind for ways to justify what we are feeling. Sometimes we have excellent insight into our emotion; other times, we are almost blind to its origins.  The majority of the time, however, our "reasons" are ego protecting and self serving. We look good to ourselves after we have come up with a reason or explanation.

Experiment with Yourself: When you feel any emotion, see how many reasons/explanations you can come up with when you encourage yourself to do so. You will be surprised that the mind keeps generating new possibilities when you continue to ask "why?"

What does this tell us?  To be very, very suspicious of the  reasons we produce for what we are feeling. We must use critical thinking skills to get to the core of the emotion, otherwise our lives will lack congruence and be chaotically driven by poorly understood emotions.
